NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware softball team ended its regular season by having its home doubleheader on Saturday against Elon cancelled due to unplayable field conditions, but the Blue Hens qualified for the CAA Championship due to other results around the league.
Delaware ends its regular season with a 29-19 overall record, and earned the fifth seed in the conference tournament by finishing with a 9-9 league mark.
Eighth-ranked James Madison is the league's regular season champion with an 18-1 CAA record and will host the tournament, while Towson is the second seed with an 11-8 mark, Charleston is third with an 11-9 record, and Elon is fourth with a 9-8 mark.
The Blue Hens will face Elon in the first day of the double-elimination tournament on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at JMU's Veterans Memorial Park, while three games are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday before Friday's championship round.
Single day tickets cost $7, while entire tournament books are available for $20. Children ages five and under are free, while students from a participating CAA institution will be admitted free with a valid student ID.
All tournament games will be broadcast live for free online via CAA.tv, while Friday's title game will be televised by the American Sports Network.
Delaware will be making its eighth CAA Tournament appearance since joining the league prior to the 2002 season, and its first since qualifying three consecutive years from 2011-13.
