“We are so excited to have Jacki provide her drive and energy for another season with the Blue Hens,” remarked Van de Kerkhof. “I believe it is a great compliment for a program to welcome back the commitment of an alumna who wants to continue to contribute to her team. Thanks to Jacki's experiences and life lessons learned during her four seasons as a student-athlete, she is a great resource and inspirational person for all of our new and returning players.”
Coveleski, who graduated in May with a Bachelor of Science degree from the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, appeared in 80 games in a Delaware uniform and helped guide the Hens to three straight CAA titles from 2012-15.
“When Jacki committed to the University of Delaware five years ago, her commitment was based on a vision and plan,” Van de Kerkhof commented. “During her four seasons as a student-athlete, she directly contributed to the growth of our program and the Delaware Field Hockey brand. She has been a key component in transitioning the vision and plan into a reality by raising the team's academic, athletic and community performances and accomplishments. We are eager to have her help UDFH take the next step up in the CAA and NCAA."
A skilled forward, she finished her career tied for 18th in program history with 16 career assists and added 18 goals for 52 points. Off of the field, the Lewes, Del. native was one of the team's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representatives and also held a position on the SAAC Executive Board.
“Joining the Delaware Field Hockey coaching staff provides me with the opportunity to give back to a program that I hold close to my heart,” exclaimed Coveleski. “UDFH contributed greatly to helping me become the person I am today. As such, I find it a great privilege to help my former teammates and newcomers have an even better experience than I had. Since my first year, this program has come a long way and it is exciting to be a part of the process as we continually improve.”
The Blue Hens open the 2016 campaign with back-to-back contests against Ohio State at Rullo Stadium on August 27 and 28. The Buckeyes are led by Delaware Hall of Famer and All-American Anne Wilkinson '83.
