RICHMOND, Va. – Following career weekends, Emmeline Oltmans (Baarn, The Netherlands/Het Baarnsch Lyceum) and Alexis Gazzio (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) earned CAA Player and Rookie of the Week awards, respectively.
Oltmans notched a career-high 11 saves Sunday afternoon as No. 14 Delaware upset No. 5 Virginia, 2-0, at UVA's University Hall Turf Field to be named the CAA Player of the Week. She also posted her fifth career shutout while facing 19 Cavaliers shots. Oltmans' previous career-best came with eight saves in Delaware's loss at No. 5 Duke last season.
The junior now has 157 career saves at a clip of 3.49 per game and a career GAA of 2.08. Her 157 saves has her 14th in program history just behind Leslie Saylor, who is 13th with 158 set from 1989-90.
Oltmans also earned Longstreth/NFHCA Division I Weekly Honorable Mention accolades for her perfromance.
Gazzio registered her first career goal in Friday's overtime loss at No. 20 Old Dominion and followed with an insurance goal in Sunday's win. The freshman is currently tied for second on the team with four points on two goals.
Delaware's win over Virginia is the highest for the Blue Hens over a Top-5 opponent since 1992 when UD defeated No. 5 Northeastern, 1-0, and the first over UVA since 1988.
The Hens return to the turf this coming Friday with a 4 p.m. match at Temple before traveling to Princeton for a 1 p.m. Sunday matinee.
