Strong Outing by Vila Pushes Team Blue Past Gold in Game One of Fall World Series

NEWARK, Del -- The University of Delaware baseball program held day one of the fall World Series Wednesday afternoon, as Team Blue defeated Team Gold 8-3.
Senior Colman Vila earned the win, contributing six strong innings for Team Blue striking out eight batters and allowing just two hits. At the plate, junior Kyle Baker produced a pair of singles and a double, driving a run. Freshman Austin Colmery drove in a pair runs, while senior Diaz Nardo produced three hits. Mercer CC transfer Erik Bowren added a double and single.
Delgado Community College transfer Matt Rykaczewski went 2-for-4 with a run scored for Team Gold, while senior Nick Spadafino struck out six batters in five innings of work. Freshman Ben Werkheiser drove in a pair of runs in the loss for Team Gold.
Team Gold and Blue square-off in game two Thursday afternoon. First pitch from Bob Hannah Stadium is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Junior Kyle Hinton is scheduled to start for Team Gold, while Cole Benjamin will take the hill for Team Blue.
