CHANDLER, Ariz. – Entering the final week of regular season action, Delaware moved up four spots to No. 7 in the most recent Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Coaches Poll.
The Blue Hens (11-4, 4-0 CAA) notched 762 points following Friday's 3-1 win over then-No. 18 William & Mary.
Connecticut maintained its unbeaten record at 15-0 to accumulate 1,097 points and 41 first place votes to remain at the No. 1 spot in the poll.
The rest of the top five includes No. 2 Duke (14-2), No. 3 Michigan (15-2), No. 4 Virginia (14-3) and No. 5 Penn State (14-3). The bottom half of the top ten consists of No. 6 North Carolina (12-4), No. 8 Maryland (12-5), No. 9 Louisville (11-6) and No. 10 Northwestern (13-5).
The next Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll will be announced on Tuesday, October 31. The poll is voted on by NFHCA member coaches, and has no bearing on selection to the 2017 NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship.
The Hens wrap up regular season play with trips to Hofstra (Friday, 3 p.m.) and Northeastern (Sunday, 2 p.m.). By defeating the Tribe and picking up a CAA forfeit win over Towson, Delaware has captured a spot in the league's postseason tournament for the seventh straight season. The Blue Hens would clinch home field advantage for the CAA Tournament with one win this weekend.
