Surging Blue Hens Return to the Top 25 with No. 23 Ranking in STATS Poll

NEWARK, Del. -- After earning votes each of the past eight weeks in the STATS Inc., Media Top 25, the University of Delaware football squad finally cracked the national Top 25 this week thanks to the 42-35 double overtime Colonial Athletic Association victory over Richmond this past Saturday at Delaware Stadium.
The Blue Hens (5-2, 3-1 CAA) debut in the poll at No. 23 with 668 points, just three behind CAA foe Stony Brook (671) at the No. 22 spot. Delaware downed the Seawolves 24-20 on Oct. 7 on the road.
Delaware, led by first-year head coach Danny Rocco, has now returned to the STATS Top 25 for the first time since Sept. 29, 2014 when Delaware was ranked No. 24. The current No. 23 spot is the Blue Hens' highest rank since Nov. 11, 2013 when UD stood in the No. 21 spot. Delaware last appeared in the Top 20 on Nov. 4, 2013 (No. 15) and last appeared in the Top 10 on Sept. 24, 2012 (No.8).
A record-tying seven CAA teams are ranked in the STATS Top 25 this week. In addition to Delaware, undefeated James Madison remained at the No. 1 spot followed by Elon at No. 10, Villanova at No. 13, Richmond at No. 17, New Hampshire at No. 19, Stony Brook at No. 22.
Delaware will continue action this Saturday when the Blue Hens make the short trip south to Towson (2-5, 0-4 CAA) for a CAA battle at 4 p.m. at Johnny Unitas Stadium.
