GAME PREVIEW:
Blue Hens Begin Pivotal Road Swing Looking to Extend Winning Streaks
TOWSON, Md. -- The No. 23/rv ranked Blue Hens, riding the momentum of a thrilling 42-35 double overtime victory over No. 11/10 ranked Richmond last Saturday, begin a two-game road swing this week as they make the short one-hour trip south to Towson to take on the Tigers at Johnny Unitas Stadium at 4 p.m. The game will be televised as part of the Colonial Athletic Association's new package with Fox College Sports.
Delaware (5-2, 3-1 CAA), which will continue road action Nov. 4 at Maine, will be looking to continue its rise in the CAA standings as the Blue Hens enter with a three-game win streak that includes league wins over Stony Brook, William & Mary, and Richmond. The Hens made their debut in the STATS Inc. national Top 25 media poll this week with a No. 23 showing, its first nation al ranking since Sept. 29, 2014.
This Saturday at Towson, the Hens will be looking to make it four straight wins for the first time since 2012 and four straight conference wins for the first time since 2011-12. Delaware will also be looking to secure consecutive league road wins for the first time since 2013.
Towson (2-5, 0-4 CAA) finished the 2016 season riding a four-game win streak but has found tough going in the first half of the 2017 campaign as the Tigers enter this week's game with a four-game losing streak, including last week's 40-17 setback at No. 18 New Hampshire in Durham, N.H.
The Tigers, one of three CAA teams still looking for their initial league triumph, suffered through a six-game losing streak in 2016 before their impressive finish.
Delaware enters the game ranked in the top half of the CAA in nearly every defensive statistical category, allowing just 17.0 points per game (No. 4 in CAA/No. 11 in NCAA) and forcing 17 turnovers.
Towson has struggled on both sides of the ball and enter ranked last in the CAA in rushing offense (91.1 yards per game) and scoring offense (12.7 points per game) and 10th in scoring defense (27.0).
Delaware leads the all-time series 11-7, including last year's 20-6 win at Delaware Stadium. The Hens had won four straight meetings at Towson before the Tigers posted a 19-0 shutout win in 2015 at Unitas Stadium.
