RICHMOND, Va. -- Thanks to a record-setting weekend, University of Delaware junior Sarah Hillman has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Women's Field Athlete of the Week.
Hillman, a nursing major from Dover, Del. (Polytech High School), was outstanding on Saturday as Delaware hosted and dominated the annual Delaware Open at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium.
Hillman shattered two school records that she already owned as she won the shot put with a toss of 47-1.5 and captured the discus competition with a throw of 171-6. Her toss in the shot put is the second best throw among CAA athletes this spring while her toss in the discus is tops among CAA performers and ranks 34th among all NCAA performers.
Delaware picked up 197 total points, easily outdistancing runner-up Towson with 66 points. Monroe College was third with 44 points followed by Coppin State and Temple in the 15-team field.
Also honored by the CAA on Tuesday were Elon senior Kimberly Johansen and James Madison sophomore Meredith Willis as CAA Women's Track Athletes of the Week and Towson junior Ksenia Safonova as CAA Women's Co-Track Athlete of the Week.
Northeastern junior Nick Fofana, the Men's Track Athlete of the Week, headlined the weekly men's awards along with William & Mary redshirt senior Taylor Frenia, who picked up Men's Field Athlete of the Week accolades for the third consecutive week.
Delaware will return to action this Saturday when the Blue Hens travel south to the Towson Invitational on Saturday.
