DALLAS – University of Delaware track & field distance runner Leah Clear earned the Conference USA Winter Spirit of Service Award, the league announced Thursday. The award honors student-athletes with significant community service endeavors, good academic standing, and participation in their sport. The Spirit of Service award is presented three times throughout the year, with Thursday's announcement accounting for all sports with championships in the winter.
The junior from Cherry Hill, N.J. set a new personal best in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:13.82. At the 2026 indoor CUSA Track & Field Championships, Clear finished 11th in the mile at 4:57.59 and was the anchor of the distance medley relay team that finished sixth overall at 11:54.51. The time in the DMR ranks eighth in program history. Clear also ranks sixth in program history in the outdoor 1500 meters at 4:26.51
Off the track, Clear spends time volunteering at the Faithful Friends Animal Society, located in Delaware. At Faithful Friends, Leah helps take care of dogs, and cats by feeding them, picking up after them and giving them much needed attention while they look for their future owners. Sometimes, Leah takes dogs on her runs so they can stay active outside of the Faithful Friends facility. She also promotes the shelter on her social pages to help generate attention for the organization and the animals
The biomedical engineering major has a 3.84 GPA, earned Dean's List honors every semester at the University of Delaware, was on the fall 2025 CUSA Commissioner's Honor Roll and Academic Medal Recipients.
