Delaware Wins Three Events, Places Second at Towson Track & Field Invitational

TOWSON, Md. -- Three first place finishes and seven ECAC qualifying performances highlighted the day for the University of Delaware women's outdoor track & field squad Saturday afternoon as the Blue Hens placed second out of 16 teams at the Towson Invitational at Johnny Unitas Stadium.
Host Towson won the team title with 214 points followed by Delaware with 187.5 points and Wheaton in third with 41.5 points.
“The team had a great day today with lots of personal best performances,” said Delaware head coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith. “I was very pleased with the results.”
Delaware sophomore Ashley Bailey won her third outdoor pole vault title of the season by winning the event with a leap of 12-feet, 1.5-inches, junior Liz McGroarty led a 1-2-3 Blue Hen finish by winning the 800 meters (2:11.11), and freshman Stephanie Bazan captured her first career meet title by winning the 5,000 meters in a time of 18:49.18.
Qualifying for the ECAC Championships were Bailey in the pole vault; McGroarty in the 800 meters; the second place 4 x 100 meter relay team of Andriene Rose, Isis Pinkney, Tyler Jackson, and Tyra Reid (47.06), second place 800 meter finisher Jeanette Bendolph (2:11.40), second place 400 meter hurdles finisher London Freeland (1:02.08), the second place 4 x 400 meter relay team of Nadia Khoury, Freeland, Bema Amponsah, and Carolyn Darr (3:47.26), and fourth place shot put finisher Jade Francis (45-0.5).
Delaware will continue action next Saturday, Apr. 22, when the Hens host the annual Delaware Classic at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium.
