NEWARK, Del. – Delaware men's tennis led early on, but the Blue Hens were unable to hold on as Morgan State pulled out the 4-3 victory at the Delaware Field House Outdoor Courts.
The Hens (6-13) opened the day with wins in No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to collect the team point.
Sophomore Blaise Casselbury (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster County Day) paired with freshman Luis Marcano (Kralendijk, Bonaire/Sagemont (Fla.)) to notch the 6-1 third flight win.
Rookie Dominick Perez (Bethesda, Md./Gonzaga College) and senior Roy Cheng (Shatin, Hong Kong/Sentinel Secondary School) followed with the 6-3 victory in the second spot.
The Bears (4-12) took the first two singles matches to take the lead before Marcano posted the 6-1, 6-1 decision over Sagar Sathyanarayanan in No. 6 singles to tie the match.
In top flight action, junior Colin Wong (Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia/SMK Kota Kemuning) defeated Lucas Krusinski, 6-3, 6-1, for his 16th win of the year.
“We came out smoking out of the gates in doubles and quickly got the 1-0 lead. In singles, we competed well on every court and we had some nice wins today with Colin and Luis. Morgan State played really well and they deserve credit for bouncing back in their singles. I'm very happy with our performance today as I felt we played and competed hard and I was proud of our sportsmanship. We will take the lessons learned from this match as we prepare for our match with Rider on Wednesday.”
