Delaware Football's Jalen Kindle Honored at Jefferson Community Service Awards Luncheon

Kindle's parents, Sherri and Matt Bisbee, traveled from Florida to be on hand to see their son recognized.Former Delaware governor and U.S. congressman Mike Castle served as master of ceremonies for the event. Among those who spoke to the crowed were Delaware U.S. Senator Chris Coons, former Delaware governor and current U.S. Senator Tom Carper, Delaware Governor John Carney, and Wilmington mayor Mike Purzycki, himself a former Delaware football standout.
A four-year member of the squad, Kindle has been a key member of the squad as an outside linebacker, been a Dean's List student a member of the Colonial Athletic Association Academic All-Conference team numerous times, and been a team leader in community service.
As the former team representative to the UD Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Kindle has taken an active leadership role on his team and has coordinated various community service events. Among the volunteer opportunities that he has taken advantage of are working at the Sunday Breakfast Mission, a homeless shelter in Wilmington, Del.; delivering meals to the elderly as part of the Meals on Wheels program; taking an active role with the B+ Foundation and UDance, an annual event run by UD students to raise money and awareness for childhood cancer; the Be the Match Bone Marrow Drive; working with youngsters at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Newark; reading to local children as part of Guest Reader Day at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School in Bear, Del.; and working with youngsters at the University of Delaware's annual Youth Football Camp during the summer.
“Although I may not have everything in the world, I'm beyond blessed and I recognize that,” said Kindle. “There are those who would die to be in the position that I'm in, and I feel that it's my duty to help these people in any way that I can. If I'm able to enhance someone's life in even the slightest manner, then I've accomplished my goal to make a difference.”
“We are certainly very proud of Jalen and this special honor,” said Rocco. “Jalen is an outstanding role model for our program and a great ambassador for our University. He is a perfect example of what we aspire to be on and off the field, in the classroom, and in the community.”
