RICHMOND, Va. -- Blue Hen junior third baseman Giovanna Kolofer was named the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Player of the Week on Monday after her impressive performance at the plate last week.
Kolofer (Salinas, Calif./Notre Dame HS) posted 13 hits in 19 at bats for a .684 batting average during Delaware's five games, leading the Blue Hens to a doubleheader sweep of Coppin State on Thursday and a CAA series win over Drexel during the weekend.
Kolofer led Delaware with team-highs of 13 hits, two triples and 10 RBI on the week, including a 7 for 7 performance Thursday against the Eagles. She tied the school record by recording five hits during the second game, driving home two runs while scoring once. Kolofer finished 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBI at Drexel on Saturday, and went 4 for 4 with four RBI and two runs scored in the 8-0 win over the Dragons during the final game of the weekend series on Sunday.
Kolofer, who has started all 28 games for the Blue Hens, is now tied for third in the CAA and tied for the team lead along with Anna Steinmetz with a .391 batting average. She also leads the team with 36 hits, ranks second with 19 runs scored and six stolen bases, and is third with 20 RBI.
The award is the first CAA Player of the Week honor for Kolofer, who shared the award with Merritt Wilkinson of UNCW. Kolfer is the third Blue Hen to win the award in the last four weeks, along with Steinmetz on Mar. 13 and Mariah Kondravy on Mar. 27.
Delaware (14-14, 4-2 CAA), which has won 12 of its last 14 games, returns home Wednesday to host Rider in a 3 p.m. non-league doubleheader.
