NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware football team, in partnership with the UD Student Nurses Association and Blue Hen volleyball program, will host the ninth annual Get in the Game Be the Match Bone Marrow Registry drive this Wednesday, April 5, on campus.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Multipurpose Room of the Trabant University Center. Students, faculty, staff and members of the community are invited to attend the event, register, and help save a life. Pre-registration is not needed and walk-ups are welcome.
Delaware football has been associated with the Be the Match program since 2009. To date, University of Delaware has added over 2,000 members to the Registry – nearly 100 have been called to be tested further, and several have gone on to donate, including former Blue Hen football All-American and current National Football League linebacker Paul Worrilow of the Detroit Lions and formerly of the Atlanta Falcons.
Delaware has continually been recognized for the number of donors they have found.
Every year, thousands of people are diagnosed with blood related illnesses and they rely on the National Bone Marrow Registry to match them with donors to save their lives.
Entering the registry only requires some paper work and a simple mouth swab, which is less then a 15-minute process. For those who are matched with someone in the registry, a blood plasma donation is all it takes 75 percent of the time.
