Delaware Assistant Football Coach Fontel Mines Leaving Blue Hens Staff for Coaching Opportunity

NEWARK, Del. -- University of Delaware football assistant coach Fontel Mines announced today that he is leaving the Blue Hens staff to pursue another coaching opportunity.
“Fontel is one of the great young coaches in the college football profession and has been very loyal to
me over the years,” said new Delaware head coach Danny Rocco. “We wish him the best.”
An immediate search to find Mines' successor is currently underway. Mines served as Delaware's wide receivers coach as well as the program's recruiting coordinator.
A native of Richmond, Va., Mines was a standout wide receiver at the University of Virginia in 2003-06 and went on to play four seasons in the National Football League with the Chicago Bears.
He began his coaching career at Chowan (N.C.) College in 2011 before spending the last five seasons with Rocco at the University of Richmond. While at Richmond, he helped the lead the Spiders to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances in 2014-16.
