NEWARK, Del. – There's no shortage of experience when it comes to Zach Haupt.
Haupt has a lengthy resume of success, both as a competitor and a coach, that he brings to the University of Delaware Track & Field program, joining the Blue Hens as an assistant coach under head coach Wendy McFarlane-Smith.
“We're excited to have Zach join our coaching staff in this new full-time position. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience that our student-athletes in the jumps and multi event will benefit from immediately,” McFarlane-Smith said. “We're looking forward to working with Zach to take our student-athletes and programs to the next level.”
Haupt brings 10 years of collegiate coaching experience to the Blue Hens, with his most recent stop being at Lynchburg College, where he served as the head coach for two seasons. He guided the Hornets to the 2014 ODAC Championships in both indoor and outdoor seasons.
During his two years at Lynchburg, he coached six school record holders, four national qualifiers and the 2014 400-meter national champion (Tom Sippie). He was named the 2014 ODAC Outdoor and Indoor Coach of the Year.
“On behalf of Julie and our children, we are extremely happy to be joining the University of Delaware staff and community,” Haupt said. “The opportunity to work for and with Coach McFarlane-Smith and an institution that shares my vision for student-athletes, along with incredible fan support makes it a great situation.”
Prior to his time at Lynchburg, Haupt spent two seasons at MIT, where he coached three freshman school record holders, three conference champions and five All-Conference honorees.
Haupt also spent time at Central Arkansas (2010-11), Webster Universtiy (2008-10), his alma mater, McKendree College (2005-07, 2001-02) and Syracuse University (2000-2001).
