Delaware Defeated by Hofstra, 3-1

NEWARK, Del. – The Delaware volleyball team fell to Hofstra, 3-1 (25-21, 286-28, 15-25, 26-24) on Sunday afternoon in the Bob Carpenter Center. With the loss, Delaware falls to 8-12 and 2-6 in the Colonial Athletic Conference while Hofstra improves to 15-6 and 5-2 in the CAA.
"There are a number of things we can take from this match," head coach Sara Matthews said. "When we play with intensity and high energy we can play toe-to-toe with any team in our conference. We have to be better executed and continue to stay aggressive late in sets. We are continuing to make great strides and our team will stay focused on the process of getting better. We are excited for another week of home matches."
Junior Maria Bellinger led the way with 20 terminations on 74 swings. Junior Cailey Bracken posted 13 kills on 27 swings for an impressive .370 attacking clip. Junior Bailey Pearlman also had 13 kills on 37 attacks. Senior Brooke Robertson recorded nine kills.
UD posted 80 digs as a team and were led the way by junior Andie Hanus with 21. Bracken posted her sixth-straight match with double-digit digs with 13 and now as 10 double-doubles this year. Sophomore Courtnie Roberts earned herself a double-double with 12 digs, while sophomore Maddie Judge had 13 for the second-straight match.
The Blue Hens posted seven team blocks with sophomore Julia Hayes coming up with four. Robertson, Roberts and Pearlman each had three while Bellinger recorded one.

Delaware will return home on Friday, October 19 to face William & Mary. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
