Delaware Falls to Elon, 3-1

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware volleyball team fell to Elon, 3-1, inside the Bob Carpenter Center on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, UD dropped to 9-13 and 3-7 in the Colonial Athletic Association while Elon improved to 9-13 and 3-7 in the league.
"Our effort was not great today," head coach Sara Matthews said. "Every conference match is as important as the next and if we don't show up and play at the highest level we won't win. We have to get back in the gym and continue to work hard."
Junior Maria Bellinger led the way with 23 kills on 65 swings for an attacking clip of .215. Junior Cailey Bracken had her 1,000 career colligate kill after 11 today. Senior Brooke Robertson and junior Bailey Pearlman each had eight. Delaware hit .205 as a team today and had 56 total kills.
Bellinger and Bracken each posted a double-double after Bellinger had 13 digs and Bracken had 12. UD was led by junior Andie Hanus who had 23 scoops and an impressive 43 digs in seven sets this weekend. Sophomore Maddie Judge had seven digs, sophomore Courtnie Roberts had six and Robertson had five. The Blue Hens had 72 as a team, the same as Elon.
Delaware had seven total blocks with sophomore Julia Hayes posting five. Bellinger had three and Robertson had two, including one solo stuff.
Bracken and Pearlman each had one ace in the loss.
The Blue Hens are back in action on Friday at 7 p.m. when they travel to UNCW.
