RICHMOND, Va. – Entering the 2018 season, a lot of the talk around the University of Delaware football program mentioned that the Blue Hens would go as far as their senior leaders would take them.
So far, so good.
Outstanding performances by Troy Reeder and Nasir Adderley this past weekend not only helped the Blue Hens dominate New Hampshire, 38-14, but also earned both CAA weekly accolades with Reeder winning his second consecutive CAA Defensive Player of the Week honor and Adderley being named CAA Special Teams Player of the Week.
Reeder finished with 12 tackles, a fumble recovery, a sack and a blocked punt to lead a defensive effort that held the Wildcats to just one offensive touchdown and 190 yards of total offense.
The accolade is Reeder's second straight and fifth of his career, making him only the second Delaware player to win five or more CAA weekly honors in his career (Andrew Pierce had nine). He is only the third defensive player in league history to be honored five or more times (Matt Evans – UNH, Stephon Robertson – JMU).
If you haven't seen Adderley's play by now, well, you've probably been under a rock.
The senior from Philadelphia, Pa. took a kickoff return back for a 92-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the victory for the Blue Hens. It's the first kick return for a TD since 2013 for Delaware.
The play was named #1 on SportsCenter and was featured on NBC's Sunday Night Football.
Adderley and Reeder will now look to focus the Blue Hens' attention on the red hot Tigers of Towson, who come into Saturday's match-up with the league's top-scoring offense. Game time at Delaware Stadium is set for 3:30 p.m.
