BALTIMORE – The Delaware men's swimming and diving team opened the season in a double dual meet against UMBC and Johns Hopkins this afternoon and fell, 166-123 to UMBC and 189-90 to JHU.
"This meet was a fantastic way to start our season," head coach Pablo Marmolejo said. "After six weeks of heavy training our Blue Hens swam very well and show a lot of character through it all. They are in a very good place as we head into our fall meet schedule and I foresee them just getting better. The environment was electric and our team showed a lot of team spirit on every event. We are looking forward to our George Mason meet and the POD meet."
Junior Kevin Basch finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:39.21. Kai Wisner of UMBC won the event with a time of 9:34.88. Basch also placed third in the 500-yard free after a 4:40.72.
Senior Asher Kiely took home the silver in the 200-yard freestyle race with a 1:53.80. Alex Gliese of UMB won the event with a 1:50.42.
Sophomore Bryce Ciecko placed second after producing a 4:40.72, just over a second behind the winner – Collin Hughes.
Freshman Justin Sabo made his Blue Hen debut with a third place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a 52.95.
