NEWARK, Del. – Four Blue Hens scored in double figures in a solid all-around effort as Delaware recorded an impressive 75-71 victory over Louisiana Tech Monday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.
Eric Carter posted game-highs of 23 points and eight rebounds for Delaware (5-2), while Ithiel Horton tied his season-best of 18 points for the second straight game. Darian Bryant contributed 12 points on the night, while Kevin Anderson chipped in 11 and Matt Veretto added eight. Delaware shot 55.3 percent from the field and knocked down 16 of 21 free throws during the win.
Coliver Powell paced Louisiana Tech (4-3) with 14 points and five rebounds, while Amorie Archibald had 13 points and Derric Jean scored 12 for the Bulldogs. Louisiana Tech also shot 55.3 percent from the floor and hit all 11 free throw attempts.
The game was close all night, as neither team led more than seven points. The teams were knotted at 61-61 with five minutes to play, but Bryant scored inside before Carter converted a three-point play to put Delaware up five with 4:23 on the clock. The Blue Hens were still up four at 72-68 in the final minute when Carter hit one free throw and Horton added a pair from the line to put the game away.
Head Coach Martin Ingelsby
"Our freshman have been really good for us, and I thought starting them gives us the most potent group to start the game and takes a little pressure off Eric Carter and Kevin Anderson. I thought our zone really neutralized their athleticism and allowed us to get out in transition. We had four guys in double figures and really good balance on the offensive end. That's a heck of a win for our basketball team."
Eric Carter
"It's great to get the win tonight, and we need to keep it going this weekend. We have an unselfish, solid group that's playing well right now."
Darian Bryant
"Tonight was a great all-around effort. They're a good team and to be able to get a win in front of our fans is a real confidence booster."
