RICHMOND, Va. – For the second straight season, Delaware had four Blue Hens represented as Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Mid Atlantic honorees, as announced by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Monday.
Senior Greta Nauck earned First Team honors for the third consecutive year while classmate Lisa Giezeman garnered Second Team accolades for the fourth straight season.
Sophomore Lotte de Koning, the CAA Player of the Year, was honored for the second time in her career by being named to the Second Team while Tessa Verweijen, the CAA Rookie of the Year, also earned Second Team accolades.
"I'm excited to see the Blue Hens being recognized on the Mid-Atlantic Region teams," stated Delaware head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof. "This is an opportunity to say 'thank you' to Greta and Lisa for four amazing seasons with many academic and athletic highlights, including three CAA championships and of course the 2016 National Championship. This is also an opportunity to share with Lotte and Tessa that they have qualities to be impact players for this team and that their teammates will be looking at them to provide direction as we prepare for the 2019 season."
Nauck led Delaware this season with 39 points on 13 goals and 13 assists. She wrapped her illustrious career as a four-time All-Region selection while logging a program-record 198 career points on 82 goals and 34 assists, a mark good for sixth in the CAA record books and ties for 26th in NCAA history. Her 82 goals are also good to tie for fourth in the CAA record books and 24th in NCAA history.
Giezeman was fourth for Delaware with 17 points on six goals and five assists. A four-time All-CAA honoree, the forward finished her Blue Hens career fourth all-time with 87 games played, 10th with 22 assists, 15th with 88 points and 16th with 33 goals.
De Koning, who played all three lines for the Hens this season, totaled 25 points on 10 goals and five assists with two game-winning goals and two defensive saves.
Verweijen was third for the Blue Hens with 18 points on seven goals and four assists while starting 19 of UD's 20 games.
The Longstreth/NFHCA Regional Player of the Year will be announced on November 29 and will be followed by the Longstreth/NFHCA All-American teams (December 4) and Longstreth/NFHCA National Collegiate Player of the Year (December 10).
