Blue Hen Freshman Chayanna Gallardo Named CAA Softball Rookie of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – Blue Hen catcher Chayanna Gallardo was named the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Rookie of the Week after an impressive performance over the weekend at the Liberty Classic.
Gallardo (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East) batted .308 and went 4 for 13 with a team-leading three doubles in the Blue Hens' five games at the tournament. She singled home a run on Friday vs. Liberty, and added an RBI double on Saturday vs. 12th-ranked Baylor. Gallardo contributed two doubles and an RBI in Sunday's 4-2 win over Ohio University.
Gallardo has appeared in all 18 games while starting 16 as a catcher and designated player for the Blue Hens, batting .213 with 10 hits, three doubles and four RBI.
Delaware, which is now 4-14 this season, opens its home schedule this weekend by hosting Villanova and Cornell in the Blue Hen Invitational.
