COLORADO SPRING, Colo. – Having the opportunity to play for your country is amongst the highest honors in all of sports.
Four former members of the University of Delaware field hockey program will do exactly that this summer when they suit up for the USA Women's Master Team at the 2018 FIH Masters World Cup Tournament from July 27 – August 5 in Terrassa, Spain.
Michelle Finegan (formerly Reilly) '84, Patti Webb (Fichter) '94, Kelly Williamson (Cawley) '98, Lauren Baugher '97 and Rachel Barger '00 will all don the Red, White & Blue this summer.
“I am very excited for the opportunity to not only represent the USA in a sport I love, but also to make new friendships and reconnect with former teammates (including two Blue Hens, Lauren Baugher and Rachel Barger),” Kelly Williamson said.
"I am so honored and very excited to be representing the USA Masters this summer, side by side with several other Blue Hens. Australia was such a blast two years ago, so I can't wait!,” Patti Webb said.
The quartet of Blue Hens will be competing with other Americans more than 140 national teams expected to compete in age categories from Over-35 to Over-55. Team USA is sending five U.S. Women's Masters National Teams in the O-35, O-40, O-45, O-50 and O-55 age divisions.
The squads will be aiming to build on their strong performances at the previous Masters World Cup, where the U.S. Women's O-45 Team brought home a bronze medal.
