3/31/2018 7:45:00 AM | Men's Lacrosse
A NEW SEASON
After facing three of the top-10 teams in the country in the past month, the Blue Hens shift their focus to a new season, the start of CAA play. Delaware will be looking to make its first appearance in the CAA Tournament since 2014.
MORE THAN A GAME
Saturday's games will recognize the One Love Foundation, which empowers people to #LoveBetter and understand that one conversation, one action and one person can make a difference and even save a life from domestic violence. The One Love Foundation was co-founded by Sharon and Lexie Love in May 2010 to honor their daughter and sister, Yeardley Reynolds Love, a University of Virginia student-athlete who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend. The organization supports its mission to end relationship violence through the core values that Yeardley exemplified: education, service, kindness, dedication, humility and sportsmanship. The more we can identify and navigate healthy and unhealthy relationship behaviors, the less likely one will end up in an unhealthy or abusive relationship.
SPREADING THE LOVE
The Blue Hens have some options offensively, entering today with four players with at least 16 goals and 20 points on the season and six different guys registering at least one hat trick. Sophomore Charlie Kitchen leads the way with 18 goals an nine assists, while Will Hirschman (16 and 8), Dean DiSimone (16 and 5) and Bryce Reid (18 and 2) aren't far behind.
NO GOAL FOR YOU!
Sophomore Matt DeLuca continues to have an outstanding year in goal for the Blue Hens, entering today's contest with double-digit saves in six of the eight games this season. He currently ranks ninth in the country with 12.00 saves per game, which is also tops in the CAA.
TIP OF THE CAP:
Junior Kevin Sheahen was recently honored by the City of Newark with a Jefferson Award for Outstanding Community Service. Sheahan is a junior business management major who serves as president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He participates in a variety of charitable efforts, including visiting sick children at A.I. DuPont Hospital for Children and raising money for organizations like the B+ Foundation and the HEADstrong Foundation.
