NEWARK, Del. – Blue Hen Spirit filled the air at the University of Delaware's sixth annual Downstate Day presented by Grotto Pizza this past Saturday at Caeser Rodney High School.
Over 350 youngsters ages 5 through 12 came out to participate in skills sessions, play in the Fun Zone and enjoy skill games, prizes and plenty of giveaways. The event saw huge growth, gaining nearly 150 more participants from last year's event.
In addition, nearly 100 Blue Hen student-athletes, coaches and staff members were on hand to meet and interact with fans and sign autographs at the end of the day.
“It was such a great experience to get out and support the Delaware community that always had my back when I was growing up,” said Delaware quarterback Darius Wade. “We all had a lot of fun working with the kids and getting to know them. It makes us all realize the impact we can have on the community around us.”
Blue Hen fans should also mark their calendars for the annual Fandemonium IX presented by Louviers Federal Credit Union that will be held this Saturday, April 21, as part of the annual football Blue-White Spring Scrimmage at Delaware Stadium. Admission and parking are free.
This action-packed day with Blue Hens Athletics & Recreation includes the Anchor Buick GMC Fan Zone with live music, food, free pony rides for kids, inflatables, face painting, games and more.
