RICHMOND, Va. – Games can be won or lost at the X.
On Saturday, in one of the biggest recent wins in Delaware lacrosse history, freshman Joe Lenskold helped set the tone at the face-off circle. His play, particularly in the second half, helped the Blue Hens secure a thrilling 11-10 win over Fairfield in the CAA opener for both schools.
Lenskold finished the day winning 14-of-25 faceoffs, including an outstanding 8-of-10 showing in the second half. He also grabbed nine ground balls on the day. All of which were career-highs for the Martinsville, N.J. native.
“We've really challenged Joe recently and to see him respond the way he did on Saturday was tremendous,” head coach Ben DeLuca said. “In order to accomplish what we've talked about as a team, we're going to consistently need guys rising to the occasion and Joe did exactly that.”
On the year, Lenskold is 38-of-62 in the circle, good for a .613 winning percentage. He's also grabbed 21 groundballs, which ranks third on the team.
Delaware is back in action this Saturday against UMass. Game time at Delaware Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
