Blue Hens Add Eight to 2018 Field Hockey Squad

NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware field hockey head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof announced Friday the addition of eight incoming student-athletes for the 2018 campaign.

“We're very excited to welcoming this year's incoming freshmen class,” remarked Van de Kerkhof, who will be in his eighth season with the Blue Hens in 2018. “The key thing this group has in common is that they all have the interest, desire and commitment of being true student-athletes, excellent teammates, strong performing players and great ambassadors of themselves, their families and the University of Delaware. They come from teams and schools where high-level competition is part of their DNA.”

Incoming student-athletes include Pia Freudenberger (Mannheim, Germany/Mannheimer Hockey Club), Lizzie Gaebel (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville/WC Eagles), Grace Hoepfner (Yorktown, Va./Grafton/Focus), Ashley Iannuzzi (Roseland, N.J./West Essex/New Heights), Sarah Iannuzzi (Roseland, N.J./West Essex/New Heights), Grace Miller (Mount Joy, Pa./Donegal/Alley Cats), Bo van Hunnik (Weesp, The Netherlands/MHC Weesp) and Laurien Vink (Hague, The Netherlands/Cartouche).

“This class is already ahead of the curve as many of them committed verbally early in their high school careers,” Van de Kerkhof stated. “We've been fortunate to work with them, where possible within the NCAA regulations, to help them prepare for their transition to college both academically and athletically. Their development and understanding is at the highest level that I have seen of all the incoming freshmen classes under my watch at Delaware.”
