Blue Hens Drop Game Two at Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The University of Delaware baseball program dropped the second game of a weekend series at The College of Charleston Saturday, falling 11-2 at Patriots Point.
The Blue Hens (22-19, 7-7 CAA) received a two-run fourth inning home run from freshman Jordan Hutchins, but a four-run fourth by Charleston (29-15, 11-6 CAA) putting the game away.
Freshman Billy Sullivan IV (4-2) started for Delaware, allowing a career-high seven runs over four and two-thirds innings of work. The former St. Mark's product struck out three.
Delaware received a strong fifth inning from Joey Haass and a pair of innings from Clay Conaway, while freshman Matt Ryan pitched a scoreless eighth.
Delaware will look to avoid the sweep tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. Freshman Chris Ludman will take the ball for the Blue Hens.

“We couldn't match the effort that Charleston got on the mound today. Our group has been resilient all season long and we need to channel that again tomorrow to avoid a sweep. We need to forget about this one today and flip the page to tomorrow. I know our guys will be ready."
HEN SCRATCHINGS:
• Delaware lost a Sullivan IV start for the first time since March 31st.
• Delaware falls to 7-3 in games started by the freshman righty.
• Hutchins HR was his first career collegiate HR.
• Sullivan's ERA jumped to 3.58.
• Ryan has now pitched three straight scoreless appearances.
• Nick Patten failed to reach base today. It snapped his on-base streak at 31 games.
