Baseball Earns Route One Rivalry Win Over Delaware State

DOVER, Del. – The University of Delaware baseball program picked up a road win against in-state rival Delaware State by a score of 7-5 as a part of the Route One Rivalry on Tuesday.

The Fightin' Blue Hens have defeated the Hornets twice this season and improved their overall record to 14-31.

HEN HIGHLIGHTS

All nine Blue Hens batters recorded a hit in Tuesday's win, as the offense recorded 15 hits. Delaware native Evan Bouldin went 3-for-4 with a double and a walk. Anthony DeCesare went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs.
Jackson Hulcher earned the start on the mound for UD. He pitched three innings, allowed three earned runs off two hits, and struck out two batters.
Matt Reyes pitched the following four innings. He did not allow any runs or hits, and struck out six batters.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets took an early 3-0 lead through the first two innings of the game.
UD got on the board in the fifth thanks to a Sal Mineo double to right field that scored Anthony Charles.
The Blue Hens took the lead in the sixth thanks to a three-run inning. All three runs were scored off singles from Jeremy Wolf, Noah Burroughs, and Mineo.
The following inning, UD opened its lead to 6-3 thanks to a DeCesare two run home run to left field.
After the Hornet cut the Blue Hen lead to 6-5 in the bottom of the eighth, LT Cockrill drove in an insurance run to help secure the 7-5 win.

The Blue Hens return to Bob Hannah Stadium for a three-game Conference USA series against FIU from May 1-3. All games of the series can be watched on ESPN+.
