HARRISONBURG, Va. – James Madison hit four home runs as the Dukes posted a 13-1 victory in five innings over the University of Delaware softball team Sunday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Park.
Morgan Tolle put JMU (27-8, 8-1 CAA) on top early with a leadoff homer in the bottom of the first, while Kierstin Roadcap added an RBI single in the frame to make it a 2-0 game. The Dukes pushed across an unearned run in the third, before Roadcap delivered another run-scoring single in the fourth to extend the margin to four.
Delaware (8-25, 2-7 CAA) scored its lone run of the day in the top of the fifth inning when freshman catcher Chayanna Gallardo clubbed a solo home run to leftcenter, her first career longball.
However Natalie Cutright, Roadcap and Odicci Alexander each went deep in JMU's nine-run bottom of the fourth that put the game away.
HEN SCRATCHINGS
• Gallardo's home run was Delaware's 13th of the season
• Giovanna Kolofer and Alyshia Dellatore had the other two Blue Hen hits
• UD starting pitcher Jordan Cargile fell to 2-6 after allowing four runs (three earned) in three innings of work
