PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – From an early age, Paul Worrilow was drawn to football.
Growing up in Wilmington, Del., Worrilow remembers driving by Lincoln Financial Field, dreaming of running on to that field one day. Watching in admiration at guys like Brian Dawkins and Brian Westbrook and the way they played the game.
“There's something special about this game and ever since I was a little kid, all I wanted to do was ball,” Worrilow said. “That's been on the forefront of my mind every day, it's the reason I'm in this position today. I wasn't going to give it up on that dream.”
After starring at nearby Concord High School, Worrilow spent a year at Coffeyvile Community College, a junior college in Kansas, before returning to Delaware in 2008 to walk-on to the Blue Hens.
“There's something special about being at home and having that support system around you,” Worrilow said. “Delaware people are so passionate about seeing other Delaware natives have success. It's a unique and special place.”
Worrilow's career took off, reaching All-American status and helping Delaware reach the 2010 National Championship game.
After graduation, he earned a spot on the Falcons roster for four seasons and spent last year with the Detroit Lions.
When free agency came around this time, Worrilow knew where he wanted to be.
“Growing up so close to Philly, you know how much these fans want to win, you want to be a part of a place like this,” Worrilow added. “I told my wife last fall that I wanted to have the chance to be back at home. To be able to have her family and my family around as support systems, we honestly relished the opportunity.”
Worrilow and the Eagles will begin off-season practices next Monday, April 16 at the NovaCare Center in Philadelphia.
