Steinmetz Named To CAA Softball First Team, de Jesus and Gallardo Earn All-Rookie Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – University of Delaware junior catcher Anna Steinmetz was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association Softball First Team while freshmen Reyna de Jesus and Chayanna Gallardo were each selected to the All-Rookie Team on Tuesday.
Steinmetz (Glen Mills, Pa./West Chester Bayard Rustin) was selected first team All-CAA for the second consecutive season, after earning second team honors as a freshman. She becomes the second Blue Hen in school history to earn multiple first team All-CAA accolades, along with Laura Streets in 2002 and 2004.
Steinmetz, who started all 49 games this season including 25 behind the plate, led Delaware with 12 doubles, 10 home runs and 38 RBI while hitting .341 this season. She posted 13 multi-hit games on the season, including three-hit contests against Ohio University and Saint Joseph's. Steinmetz is UD's career leader with 36 career homers, ranks second with 132 RBI, and is eighth with 29 doubles.
de Jesus (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) started every game during her freshman year, all but one in rightfield. She batted .242 on the season and ranked third on team with nine doubles and 20 RBI, while her 18 runs scored were fourth and her 36 hits ranked fifth. de Jesus, who batted .286 in conference games, collected three hits in a game vs. Charleston and posted two-hit efforts in four of the final seven contests of the year.
Gallardo (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East) hit .216 on the year while appearing in 48 games, starting 46 contests including 24 behind the plate. She recorded five two-hit games on the season, and belted her first career home run at James Madison on Apr. 8.
Delaware has now had multiple All-Rookie Team honorees in four of the last six years.
