NEWARK, Del. -- The accolades keep coming for Delaware freshman Billy Sullivan IV, who was named to the Perfect Game/Rawlings Freshman All-American second team the publication announced Thursday.
Sullivan IV (New Castle, Del./St. Mark's), who completed one of the most prolific freshman campaigns in school history, struck out 95 batters in 72.2 innings pitched. The Delaware native pitched to a record of 7-3 with an ERA of 2.97, setting a new freshman program record for strikeouts.
His 95 strikeouts were also the second most by a freshman in the country, trailing just Drey Jameson of Ball State who recorded 97 strikeouts. The rookie's 11.77 strikeouts per nine innings was the 30th best mark nationally.
In addition to Thursday's distinction, Sullivan IV earned CAA Co-Rookie of the Year, was selected to the CAA All-Tournament team and was named a Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American.
A 2017 draft pick in the 28th round by the Philadelphia Phillies, Sullivan is the Blue Hens first PG honoree since Jimmy Yezzo in 2013.
