BALTIMORE, Md. – The official kickoff to the 2018 season brought high praise and high expectations for the University of Delaware football program.
CAA Media Day brought together the league's coaches and student-athletes, along with media members from up and down the East Coast for the official kickoff of the 2018 campaign.
After seven wins last year and nearly making the playoffs, the Blue Hens received high praise in the preseason poll, being picked third behind only James Madison and New Hampshire. In addition, five student-athletes were honored on the Preseason All-CAA squad.
Seniors Troy Reeder, Nasir Adderley, Charles Scarff, Mario Farinella and Kani Kane all received recognition on the preseason team. It was the second most representatives by any team in the league (outside of JMU's six) and the most since 2011 for Delaware.
Reeder is coming off a First Team All-CAA honor last season, in which he racked up 89 tackles (34 solo), seven tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks while playing nearly every snap on the defensive side of the ball for the Blue Hens.
Not only did Adderley make highlight reel plays and end up on SportsCenter, but he also one of the only two returning defensive players in all of FCS who racked up over 75 tackles and at least five interceptions last season.
Kane earned Third Team All-CAA accolades last season after rushing for nearly 600 yards on just 142 carries, while piling up seven touchdowns. Kane had two 100-yard performances and a three-TD day in the win against Cornell.
Farinella is one of the senior leaders on the offensive line, a unit in which helped the Blue Hens rush for over 2,100 yards and 14 touchdowns last season. The Bloomfield, N.J. native has battled injuries over the past three seasons, but gained four starts and appeared in 15 games over that span.
Scarff earned Second Team All-CAA honors last fall after catching the second most TD passes on the team (3) and started seven games for the Blue Hens at the tight end spot.
