NEWARK, Del.-The University of Delaware field hockey team has undisputedly been one of the most dominant programs in collegiate sports, winning five straight conference titles to date, with a national championship as recently as 2016.
Â
Now the Blue Hens can add another award to their mantle as they were honored with the CAA Team Academic Excellence award.Â
Â
"As a program, we strive to achieve at the highest level both on and off the field. We want our student-athletes to have success in academics and athletics and I'm proud of the hard work that our student-athletes have put forth in all areas," head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof said.Â
Â
This honor is awarded to recognize the institution with the highest collective grade point average in all 22 sports sponsored by the CAA. The team GPA is a calculation of the grade point average of each student-athlete who appeared on an institution's roster throughout the final day of their respective championship seasons during the 2017-18 academic year.Â
Â
With the offseason reaching its end, the Blue Hens look to continue their recent success and claim a sixth straight conference title as they begin their 2018 regular season at Ohio State on Friday, August 24.Â
