Delaware Drops CAA Opener to Towson, 3-0

Maria Bellinger led the way with 13 kills
TOWSON, Md. – The Delaware volleyball team dropped the Colonial Athletic Association opener to Towson, 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-22), on the road inside the SECU Arena on Friday night. With the loss, Delaware dropped to 6-7 and 0-1 in league play while Towson improved to 6-8 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
"Our group has to work on being more consistent and executing the game plan," head coach Sara Matthews said. "We've talked a lot about how great teams are great because they can produce when they get uncomfortable. We have to continue to get better in those situations. We have the chance to get back in the gym tomorrow, get better and prepare for JMU on Sunday."
Junior Maria Bellinger led the way with 13 kills and hit the double-digit mark for the ninth time this season. Junior Bailey Pearlman had eight hammers while senior Brooke Robertson posted five. Junior Cailey Bracken had four.
Two Blue Hens went into double-digit digs as Bracken a team-high 15. Bracken has produced 15 digs six times this season. Libero Andie Hanus had 13 scoops and added a rare libero kill and four assists. Roberts was one dig shy of a double-double with nine and Bellinger and freshman Samantha Davis each had six.
Roberts directed the offense with 26 assists. Hanus added four assists while Bracken had one for a team total of 31.
Delaware recorded four aces as a team with two coming from Robertson. Bellinger and Pearlman each had one.
The Blue Hens had seven total blocks. Robertson recorded four while Bellinger had three. Pearlman had the other block.

Delaware continues CAA play on Sunday at James Madison at 1 p.m. JMU is 9-3 overall and 1-0 in the CAA. The Dukes will take on Hofstra tomorrow at noon before welcoming the Blue Hens inside Sinclair Gymnasium.
