No. 24 Albany Tops No. 15 Delaware, 2-1
9/23/2018 3:46:00 PM | Field Hockey
ALBANY, N.Y. – Senior goalie Sydney Rhodes recorded another outstanding performance between the pipes, but the No. 15 Blue Hens couldn't overtake No. 24 Albany in Sunday's 2-1 loss.
Â
Rhodes finished the day with seven saves and faced 13 shots.
Â
Freshman Laurien Vink collected Delaware's lone goal of the day as she capitalized on a penalty corner opportunity set up by junior Ally Pollak and freshman Pia Freudenberger.
Â
Dana Bozek and Ghislaine Beerkens notched goals for the Great Danes (6-2) while Albany logged a total of eight saves.

POST-GAME QUOTES
Head Coach Rolf van de Kerkhof
"We didn't start as strong as we needed to and with that we had to fight back into the game. Towards the end of the first half and early in the second half, it seemed we reconnected as a team which resulted in a couple of quality attacks. This teamwork, energy and performance allowed us to tie the game via a well-executed penalty corner. We tried to step up once Albany took the lead but were not sharp enough nor did we bring the fight as a team to compete for the win."
Â
"Now that we have played nine games, a lot has become clear to our program. We have played different lineups, learned more about players that play well together and about ourselves as players and coaches, and with that where Delaware Hockey is at the moment. We know that the lessons we learned and experiences we gained during non-conference will put us in an excellent position to start CAA play against Drexel. I am excited to return home to Rullo Stadium and to kick off conference action."
