NEWARK, Del. – For the past four years, they've given everything they had to the University of Delaware swimming & diving program. On Saturday, they took the pool deck at the Carpenter Sports Building for the final time in competition.
17 student-athletes were honored on Senior Day as the Blue Hens took on Towson in the final home meet of the 2018-19 campaign.
"I can't say enough about our senior class. From day one, they've set the tone and helped us as a coaching staff usher in a lot of changes and new ways of training," head coach Pablo Marmolejo said. "I'm so happy for them because as a group, they really performed well today in their last home meet and helped set the tone for a good afternoon for us."
As a group, Delaware won six events on the afternoon, but ultimately fell, 194-106 on the women's side and 188-92 on the men's side.
Junior Kevin Basch led the way with victories in the 500 and 1000 yard freestyle, while seniors Mina Feyrer (200-yd butterfly) and Asher Kiely (200-yd backstroke) took home the top spots in the final home meets of their careers.
Freshman Taylor Draganosky and sophomore Catherine Erwin both picked up their first wins of the season at the meet.
Sophomore Bryce Ciecko had a strong day in the pool as well with three top-three finishes, including two second-place showings in the 200 and 500 yard freestyle.
"I think it was a great way for us to end the home season, especially after the year that we had as a program with a lot of changes, learning new things and learning each other," Marmolejo said. "This group responded really well all year long and particularly today. I thought our unity of the group really shown bright throughout today's meet."
