Delaware to Host National Girls & Women in Sports Day Sunday, Feb. 17

NEWARK, Del. -- On Sunday, Feb. 17, the University of Delaware will host its annual National Girls & Women In Sports Day (NGWSD), presented by Christiana Care Health System. The two-hour pregame event will take place in the Delaware Field House beginning at 11 a.m.
Free and open to all girls ages 5 to 12, participants will interact with UD women's athletics & recreation student-athletes and coaches in hands-on sports and wellness fun. Participants must register in advance as space is extremely limited.
No equipment is needed by participants. However, comfortable athletic attire and sneakers are strongly recommended.
Tip-off for the women's game vs. Hofstra is slated for 2 p.m. at The BOB and all participants registered for the NGWSD event will receive a complimentary ticket to the game. The girls will then be invited to form the Hens High Five Tunnel during halftime of the game.
Fans wishing to participate in the NGWSD can learn more and register for the event by CLICKING HERE. Online event registration is open until filled, or 4 p.m. on Friday, February 1st. Space is subject to availability on a first-come, first-served basis. All participants must register in advance. Day of registration will not be available.
National Girls and Women in Sports Day began in 1987 as a single event in Washington, D.C. to honor Olympic volleyball star Flo Hyman. Since then, the day has grown into a nationwide celebration across all 50 states. The day can always be attributed back to the work Hyman did as an athlete and for her work to assure equality for women's sports.
NGWSD has become a day to acknowledge the past accomplishments of female athletes and recognizing current sports achievements of women in sports.
