CHANDLER, Ariz. – Blue Hens seniors Sarah Horgan and Sydney Rhodes were chosen Wednesday as two of 38 student-athletes selected for the 2019 Victory Sports Tours/NFHCA Division I Senior Game, held Friday, November 22 at 7 p.m. at Wake Forest University.
"Congratulations to Sarah and Sydney for this selection," exclaimed Rolf van de Kerkhof, who is in his ninth season as the Delaware head coach. "It is great that the NFHCA recognizes them for who they are and how they have developed as Blue Hens and for their contributions to both the sport and the University of Delaware."
Van de Kerkhof continued, "This is a joyous and proud moment for our program as we continue to strive to develop our student-athletes. Although Sarah and Sydney will be excited to play in the NFHCA Senior Game, I am sure their goal is to lead the Blue Hens as one of the final four teams at the NCAA Championship weekend at Wake Forest."
Horgan, a four-year starter for the Blue Hens, has appeared in 70 games as a defender. During her tenure, Delaware has registered a mark of 59-17 (.776) with two CAA Tournament titles and the 2016 National Championship crown. A 2016 CAA All-Rookie Team selection, Horgan was also the 2018 Team Defensive Player of the Year.
A fifth-year student-athlete for the Hens, Rhodes has played in 42 career games and is third in program history with a 1.47 goals against average and ninth all-time with 18 career victories. She was a 2018 All-CAA First Team honoree and has currently registered a career-best four shutouts this season with a 1.04 GAA.
The last time the Blue Hens had two picks for the Senior Game came in 2016 when Esmée Peet and Meghan Winesett could not participate due to Delaware's National Championship run.
