Bellinger with near double-double in the loss

NEWARK, Del. – The Delaware volleyball team could not get anything going Sunday afternoon, dropping a three-set contest to Northeastern (16-25, 17-25, 23-25) at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Senior Maria Bellinger led everyone on the floor with 13 kills on the afternoon to go along with seven digs and two blocks while freshman Lani Mason followed with nine kills, eight digs and a season-high four aces.

The Huskies got off to a fast start, hitting .333 in the opener and finished the match strong with a .400 hitting percentage in the third set.

The Blue Hens started to get going in the third, led by Bellinger's six kills in the frame as the team nearly matched Northeastern, hitting .300 in the set.

Redshirt junior Julia Hayes and freshman Ayala Plummer had a successful day on the block, each with three denials and Plummer had three kills on six swings off the bench.

The Blue Hens will begin their second lap around the CAA Friday night at UNCW before a trip to Charleston Sunday afternoon.
