A career defensive performance from the senior wasn’t enough

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Senior libero Andie Hanus had 32 digs Friday night to reach 1,000 in her collegiate career, but her defensive efforts weren't enough as the Delaware volleyball team fell in straight sets (22-25, 19-25, 17-25) at UNCW.

Hanus set her season high in digs, just one shy of her career high and added her first kill of the season.

The Blue Hens battled back in the first set after falling behind with five unanswered points to make it 23-22 UNCW, but the comeback was just too late.

Again, the Blue Hens scored five of the final six points in the second set, but it was a similar story as the hole was just too deep.

Senior Maria Bellinger led the way with 12 kills and two blocks while classmate Bailey Pearlman had six kills and four blocks.

Delaware continues its tour of the Caronilas with a trip south to Charleston for a 1 p.m. first serve Saturday.
