Strien’s Seven Points Guide No. 12 Hens to 8-4 Win at Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – A season-high in goals, points and shots and multiple players with career games and the No. 12 Blue Hens picked up the 8-4 victory at Hofstra.
Junior Femke Strien led Delaware with a career-best seven points, including her first career hat trick.
Additionally, sophomore Grace Hoepfner registered a career-high two goals while classmate Grace Miller logged a career-best three points on a goal and her first career assist for the Hens.
Additionally, freshman Kerri McClay gathered her first career goal and assist while graduate student Milan Spooren posted her first career assist.
Freshman Ashlyn Carr notched the first goal of the afternoon just four minutes into the contest before McClay gave the Hens the 2-0 advantage just before the quarter break while Strien put Delaware ahead, 3-1, just before halftime.
The floodgates opened to begin the third quarter as McClay, Hoepfner and Miller all captured goals within a minute-and-a-half span. Strien finished things in the fourth quarter by posting back-to-back goals with just over 10 minutes remaining in the contest for the hat trick.
Sophomore Lizzie Gaebel saw her first start in the cage this season and collected two saves for her fifth career victory.
