STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Penn State put three players in double figures as the Nittany Lions defeated Delaware, 75-49, in a charity exhibition game Sunday afternoon at the Bryce Jordan Center.
Nate Darling paced the Blue Hens with 25 points, draining three 3-pointers and going 6 of 8 from the foul line. Darling scored 19 of UD's 23 points in the opening half.
Kevin Anderson contributed seven points, Aleks Novakovich added six, Collin Goss had five, and Justyn Mutts chipped in four. Goss, Anderson, and Darling all tied for the team lead with five rebounds. Delaware shot just 31.4 percent from the floor and went 6 of 24 from behind the arc. The Blue Hens played without last year's leading scorer Ryan Allen, who sat out with a sprained ankle.
Mike Watkins recorded a double-double for the Nittany Lions with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Myreon Jones added 18 points. Penn State held a 36-20 advantage in points in the paint and enjoyed a commanding 55-28 edge on the boards.
Head Coach Martin Ingelsby
"I'd like to thank Pat (Chambers) for inviting us to play up here for a good cause against a really good team. We're still learning a lot about our team. We've got a long way to go but this is a great reference point for us moving forward. It was hard not having Ryan Allen, you want to have all of your firepower out there against a Power 5 team but we're being cautious and hopefully he'll be ready for our opener next Tuesday. We were searching a bit offensively; Nate Darling really carried us for a while, but he got tired at the end."
