Scoring Surge Pushes No. 11 Hens Over No. 25 Huskies in CAA Opener

DEDHAM, Mass. – Delaware came out firing and closed with a bang Sunday afternoon as the No. 11 Blue Hens cruised to the 5-1 victory over No. 25 Northeastern in the Colonial Athletic Association opener at Dedham Field.
UD saw goals from four different players while six total Blue Hens captured a point in the victory.
Freshman Ashlyn Carr led the way with a season-high two goals while sophomore Grace Hoepfner and juniors Sophie Giezeman and Femke Strien also tallied scores.
The Hens, who had scored just one first quarter goal entering the game, quickly saw an opening goal from Hoepfner before Carr gave Delaware the 2-0 advantage after 15 minutes.
UD continued fourth quarter dominance this season with three goals and are now outscoring opponents 11-4 in the final stanza of the game this year.
Redshirt senior Sydney Rhodes logged two saves while allowing zero goals in 51 minutes of action to lower her season GAA to 0.82. Sophomore Lizzie Gaebel came in in relief and posted one save with one goal allowed.
