RICHMOND, Va. – This isn't something new for Will Knight. He's been doing it at Delaware Stadium for half of a decade.
On Saturday, he did it once again, rushing for over 100 yards for the fourth time this season, including the game-winning touchdown in the Blue Hens' 17-10 victory over Stony Brook. For his efforts, Knight was named the CAA Rookie of the Week for the first time in his career.
"For me, everything starts with the big men up front. They're the ones giving me the holes and putting me in position to make plays, it's just my job to make those plays and help my team win," Knight said.
Knight finished the day with 108 yards on 17 carries, while also catching two passes for 28 yards. His four 100-yard performances are tied with Thomas Jefferson with the most in a single season by a freshman.
On the year, the Smyrna, Del. native has 830 yards on 116 carries for a 7.2 yards per carry total, which ranks fifth-best in the country. His 830 yards is just 60 away from Jefferson's 890 yard total from 2015, which is the second highest total by a freshman in program history.
He's also caught 17 passes for 236 yards and a team-leading all-purpose total of 1066.
Knight and his teammates will wrap up the 2019 season with another rendition of the Battle of the Blue. Game time on Saturday at Villanova is set for 1 p.m.
