NEWARK, Del. – UD Athletics Director of Intercollegiate Athletics & Recreation Services, Chrissi Rawak, announced on Monday the promotion of two athletic department members, Dan Watson and Jake Schrum. They have both been elevated to Senior Associate Directors over their respective areas.
"We were fortunate enough to have two terrific internal candidates - Dan and Jake have been part of the Athletics & Recreation Services family for quite some time. I am grateful for their leadership and commitment to the department," Rawak said.
Watson, who is currently in his 15th year on staff at Delaware, will oversee all Sport Performance areas, including Athletic Training, Strength & Conditioning, Performance Nutrition and Sport Psychology. A 1995 graduate of the University of Delaware, Watson then earned his Masters degree at the University of Virginia before working at Yale then Rutgers. He returned to UD in 2004 as part of the athletic training staff and has been promoted three times prior to this new role. He has previously served as President of the Delaware Athletic Trainers Association, while also representing the Blue Hens at numerous conferences nationally, including the NATA Annual Symposium.
"This is an exciting time to be a Blue Hen and I'm grateful to Chrissi and the senior leadership team for allowing me this opportunity," Watson said. "Being a Blue Hen is something I'm truly passionate about and I look forward to continuing to work with our incredibly talented staff to continue to impact the lives of our student-athletes."
Schrum is now in his fifth year with the Blue Hens and will oversee all Facilities and Event Operations, the Ice Arena and Outdoor Aquatic Center teams and will also manage capital projects for the department including the Whitney Athletic Center project which is scheduled to open in August of 2020. After earning his degree in communications from West Virginia University in 2008, Schrum spent several years professionally in minor league baseball, including a role with the Blue Rocks. He first joined the Blue Hens in January of 2015 as the Technology and Events Manager. He has since served as Assistant AD for Facilities & Event Operations as well as the Associate AD for Bob Carpenter Center Operations & Facilities, before his new role as the Senior Associate AD.
"I'm honored to have this opportunity to lead such a hard-working group and I look forward to continuing to improve our facilities for our student-athletes, alumni, fans and community members," said Schrum
