Delaware hit .476, the best in a CAA match in program history
NEWARK, Del. – A balanced and efficient offensive attack lifted the Delaware volleyball team to a redemption sweep of William & Mary (25-14, 25-14, 25-15) Friday night at the Bob Carpenter Center, hitting its highest team percentage in a CAA match in program history.
Â
As a team, the Blue Hens hit .476 on the night which is the third-highest mark in program history and best clip since they hit .500 against Vermont in 2000. It is the highest attack percentage by any CAA team this season.
Â
Delaware set the tone from the start, jumping out to a 9-1 lead and used a balanced attack that saw four players pitch in for five kills during the run.
Â
Leading the way was senior Maria Bellinger, going 14-1-18 to hit .722 with five digs and an ace while classmate Bailey Pearlman, redshirt freshman Adelina Rivera, and freshman Lani Mason each chipped in with nine.
Â
Rivera added five rejections on the night while Pearlman had three aces and a pair of blocks.
Â
The Blue Hens went on a pair of 6-0 runs to take control of the second set, one with freshman Ezgi Basaranlar at the service line and one with Pearlman. Basaranlar had 46 assists on the night with an ace and two kills to help set up the attack.
Â
Senior Andie Hanus was in double-digits again with 10 digs, the 23rd time this season she has had at least 10 digs. She also pitched in with one of Delaware's eight aces on the night.
Â
The win keeps the Blue Hens in the CAA Tournament hunt and they host another crucial conference matchup Sunday afternoon when Elon comes to town for Senior Day at the Bob Carpenter Center. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
