NEWARK, Del. – With spring ball on the horizon, the University of Delaware football team added two new faces to the mix with transfers Dae'lun Darien (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) and Zachariah Burton (New Castle, Del./William Penn).
Darien is a linebacker that comes to Delaware after two seasons at Penn State, while Burton, who was a speedy wide receiver in high school, converted to a DB during his two seasons at the University of Virginia.
Darien is a 6-4, 225 linebacker who played in 15 games over the past two seasons with the Nittany Lions. Mostly seeing time on special teams, Darien is a big bodied presence who had four tackles and a pass deflection this past fall.
Prior to Penn State, Darien was a two-time letterwinner and team captain at Dunbar High School in Baltimore, Md. He was a two-way threat who earned first team accolades as a senior. He was a three-star recruit according to multiple recruiting sites and ranked in the top-25 prospects in the state of Maryland coming out of high school.
Burton is a familiar face coming back to his home state after two years at the University of Virginia. He is the younger brother of current Blue Hen, Frank Burton. He was a speedy wide receiver and defensive back at William Penn, who worked at both WR and CB during his time with the Cavaliers.
He did not appear in a game for UVA and will be a redshirt sophomore next season for the Blue Hens. During his time at William Penn, he was a first-team all-state honoree and was a part of the 2014 State Championship squad that went 12-0. In addition to his football career, he was a part of the state championship 4x100 relay team in 2015.
Both are currently enrolled in classes and will be a part of Delaware's spring practices.
